Instead of getting bigger, amp manufacturers seem to be focusing on making their amp heads smaller. There are handy lunchbox-size heads everywhere these days. Peavey's 6505 Piranha Micro Head boasts 20 watts of combined power, as this hybrid guitar amp head features a 12AX7 tube in the preamp and a transistor output, resulting in a lot of power and delicious tube gain. With its straightforward controls and a slew of handy connection options, including an effects loop, this amp is perfect for the guitarist on the go.

Sink your teeth into this

This compact lunchbox may not look too impressive, but just wait till you plug it in. With a combined speaker output of 16 ohms, it can easily handle a monster of a cabinet, plus it's capable of delivering an impressive 20 watts of power. You'll have that well-known high-gain Peavey sound which you can adjust to your liking using the Gain knob, and add some extra punch using the Crunch/Lead switch.
