Allmänt

Fender presents the Made in Japan Cyclone. Just like the Mustang, this model has a more manageable offset body, with a special feature in the form of the same vintage-style tremolo bridge as the Stratocaster. Another stand-out specification is the 24.75-inch scale length, which falls right in between the standard Mustang and Strat scale length. This, combined with the modern C-shape maple neck and satin-gloss finish, results in an exceptionally comfortable playing feel.

The Made in Japan Cyclone: A Jack of All Trades

The Fender Japan team have opted for an HS pickup configuration and planted a specially-designed Made in Japan Cyclone humbucker in the bridge position and a matching single-coil pickup at the neck. This dynamic duo shapes wide-ranging tone, supporting warm cleans and fat distortion alike and preparing the Fender MIJ Cyclone for virtually any style. Gig bag included.

Ik had ooit een Japanse Strat en dat was, achteraf gezien, de beste Strat die ik ooit bezat. Japanse Fenders hebben terecht een zeer goeie naam, wat materialen, afwerking én afstelling betreft. Deze Cyclone is evenwel een dubbeltje op zijn kant. De hardware is prima kwaliteit en de afwerking is degelijk, met een gemakkelijk te bespelen satijnen hals. Maar... De afstelling laat flink te wensen over. De hals komt te hoog boven de body en heeft een iets te lage 'relief'. Bovendien staan de zadels al op hun hoogste punt, zodat een iets hogere actie niet of nauwelijks te bereiken is zonder shimmy. Al bij licht gebruik van de tremolo-arm, ontstemt de gitaar enorm, omdat de nut niet goed uitgevijld is. Mijn cheapo Bullet en Sonic Stratocasters uit Indonesië zijn beter afgesteld vanuit de fabriek en hebben geen enkel stemmingsprobleem bij licht gebruik van de Tremolo. Een laatste punt van kritiek. Bij de gitaar zit niets van papieren, laat staan een bewijs van kwaliteitscontrole, toch het minimum voor een gitaar van flink boven de 1000 € retail. Kortom, Fender Japan laat steken vallen.
