Fender David Gilmour Stratocaster NOS Black MN: Sound, Look and Feel
If you've ever listened to Pink Floyd classics such as 'Money', 'Comfortably Numb' and 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', you'll be familiar with the original black Stratocaster's balanced, full sound. The Fender Custom Shop has taken great care to faithfully reproduce this guitar. To start with, a light black alder body from 1968 has been joined to a one-piece maple neck with a '57 Thin-Shouldered C profile from 1983. The sound, feel and look of the original 'Black Strat' have been perfectly executed in this excellent solid-body thanks to a collaboration between Fender, David Gilmour and his regular guitar technician Phil Taylor.
Custom Hardware and Pickups
All aspects of the David Gilmour Stratocaster NOS have been adapted to the master guitarist's wishes. The vintage-style bridge has been fitted with a special bevelled sustain block and shortened tremolo arm. This makes it possible to add tasteful vibrato effects to your chords and solos easily. In terms of pickups, a Fender Custom Shop Fat '50s single-coil at the neck, and a special wound single-coil in the middle have been chosen. A Seymour Duncan SSL-5 at the bridge completes the configuration. In combination with the potentiometers for volume and tone and the 5-way pickup switch, a broad palette of sounds can be created, everything from a clear amplified sound to a warm high output.
