Tama's Superstar Hyperdrive drum kits are intended for powerful playing. The Tama ML62HZBNS-ILP Superstar HD Maple Lacebark Pine Indigo's most remarkable feature is the outer ply of wood on the shells. Just like in the regular series, the maple gives the kit a warm sound, but this particular model features an outer veneer of lacebark pine. This type of wood features a gorgeous wood grain that is accentuated nicely by the Indigo finish. Combined with the black nickel hardware, it also gives this kit a cool, sleek look.

This six-piece shell set consists of a rather large, 22 x 18" bass drum with a deep sound. The two toms, 10 x 6.5" and 12 x 7" in size, are quite shallow, guaranteeing quick response and plenty of attack. Then, there are the 14 x 12" and 16 x 14" floor toms and a crisp-sounding 14 x 5.5" snare drum Furthermore, Tama chose to go with a virgin bass drum for this kit, resulting in optimal sound. However, that means you'll have to mount your toms with two MC69 tom holders. You attach those using the StarCast mounting system, which connects to the hoop of the drum and allows the shell to resonate freely.

Shell hardware

The Superstar series features die-cast hoops, which means they have no structural weaknesses. This allows them to keep the special Power Craft II drumheads in tune, aided by the Sound Bridge High Tension lugs. These are incredibly lightweight, and designed in such a way that the middle part does not touch the shell to, once again, help optimise resonance. Finally, the bass drum features Tama's distinctive claw hoops, which feature a rubber lining that prevents them from damaging the wooden bass drum hoop, as well as a bass drumhead that has a built-in ring muffler.
