Allmänt
Gretsch's G5191MS LH is a tribute to legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist Tim Armstrong, the founder of iconic punk rock band Rancid. As Tim Armstrong is a left-handed player himself, Gretsch deemed it no more than logical to issue a left-handed edition of his signature-model guitar. Like most Gretsch models, the G5191MS is a semi-acoustic, hollow-body guitar. At first sight, this Man Salmon pink guitar with its classic round shape, elegant white bindings and gold-coloured hardware looks more retro than punk. Thanks to its Gretsch Black Top Filter'Tron humbucker pickups, however, the guitar offers more than enough power and volume for some rugged shredding.
The solid sound of the Gretsch G5191MS Tim Armstrong
During the development of the left-handed G5191MS, Gretsch has really taken Armstrong's specific instructions into account. The guitarist requested a comfortably slim neck made of a single piece of maple, ensuring a tight, punchy tone and a solid feel. The fingerboard is made of rosewood and features white bindings, synthetic mother-of-pearl block inlays, a white graphite string nut and 22 frets. Thanks to the addition of a zero fret, the string nut is never too low or too high. The hollow, 68 mm thick body of the G5191MSLH is made of 5-ply laminated maple, in order to ensure the clear and direct sound that Armstrong specified, and is fitted with two f-style sound holes and a single cutaway. Two rugged tone bars beneath the top provide the guitar with additional power and a deeper tone.
First-class hardware and electronics
The Gretsch G5191MS LH is equipped with two Black Top Filter'Tron pickups, each with its own volume and tone control. A master volume knob and a three-way pickup switch are also at your disposal. The FilterTrons are low-output humbucker pickups that have been specifically designed to filter out the electronic noise that is typical for single-coil pickups. They produce the warmth and sustain of a humbucker with the characteristic sparkle and bite of a single-coil. The bridge of the left-handed G5191MS Tim Armstrong signature is an Adjusto-matic with six adjustable saddles for optimal intonation. The strings are attached to a beautiful harp-style floating tailpiece, and the guitar is also equipped with Grover tuners and a unique Gretsch strap lock system.
