Fender's Select series is now home to one of the most distinctive guitars ever made: the Sienna Sunburst Port Orford Cedar Stratocaster. A characteristic feature of this special Strat is its strong, lightweight Port Orford Cedar body that produces rich tones. Port Orford Cedar is cut from an evergreen that grows on the southern shores of Oregon, USA. Despite its name, Port Orford Cedar is a cypress with a fat, robust and responsive sound.
Port Orford Cedar Stratocaster: comfortable neck
The neck of this unique Strat was made of a single piece of beautifully grained maple, also known as figured maple. It features 22 medium jumbo frets and a compound fretboard radius that goes from 9.5 to 14 inches. The fretboard is more convex near the string nut, to allow for easier chord playing, and flatter towards the higher positions so you can bend the strings far without the annoying buzz. The back of the neck has a matte finish for additional playing comfort.
Pickups and hardware
The Port Orford Cedar Stratocaster has specially voiced pickups that you will only find on a Fender Select series guitar. These single-coils have extra windings for a rich, lively output. To ensure maximum tuning stability for the 2-point tremolo bridge, as well as facilitate fast string changes, this Strat was fitted with a set of Deluxe Staggered Locking machine heads. What's more, if you are in the mood for Straplocks, the right type of strap buttons have already been provided for.
