Fender have expanded the Modern Player series with the distinctive Mustang. It is a short-scale electric guitar with classic sixties looks and some modern modifications. For instance, the two feeble single-coils have been replaced with a duo of wicked P90 soap bar pickups. The guitar still features the slider switches to let you switch each pickup on, off or in phase. This edition of the Fender Modern Player Mustang has a Honey Burst finish that beautifully accentuates the grain of the pine body.

Modern Player Mustang: sound and playability

Thanks to its pine body, the Fender Modern Player Mustang is surprisingly lightweight. Its sound is also pleasant, with rich mids and tight basses, and makes for an ideal combination with the fierce P90s. The neck's shorter (24-inch) scale length is perfectly suited for smaller guitarists. The 22 medium jumbo frets and modern 9.5-inch radius provide for effortless bends on any position without annoying buzzing sounds. Also, this guitar wouldn't be a proper Mustang if it wasn't equipped with a floating bridge and the distinctive Dynamic Vibrato tremolo tailpiece.

The Modern Player series combines these aspects with modern electronic features and unexpected variations of wood types. They are comfortable instruments to play, with a C-shape neck and a relatively flat 9.5-inch fretboard radius.
