Allmänt
Fender's very first signature guitar was the Eric Clapton Stratocaster. Now, the name of this legendary blues guitarist is tied to a threesome of signature amplifiers of which this Fender EC Twinolux is the largest. It is a single-channel full-tube guitar amplifier and was made by hand in California. The Twinolux was modelled after Clapton's favourite amplifier: the 1957 Fender Tweed Twin-amp. Naturally, it is fully customised to the artist's specific wishes and thus features an authentic tube-driven tremolo effect that is switchable via the included foot switch. Also, this amplifier comes with a luxury protective cover by Fender.
Fender EC Twinolux: tube bias tremolo and power attenuator
The Fender EC Twinolux is equipped with a '50s-style tube-bias tremolo with speed and intensity controls. It creates the effect by varying the voltage that is sent to the power amp tubes, thus producing a pulse that pulsates more strongly than it does with modern tremolo effects. The EC Twinolux's tone control is more elaborate than its smaller brothers, as it features treble, bass and presence adjustments. Additionally, this combo features a power attenuator that allows you to decide whether you want to use both speakers at full power, both at low power, or one at low power while the other one's completely off. This'll provide the same warm, dynamic sound at lower volumes as well.
First-class components and housing
This tube amplifier uses specially crafted Mercury Magnetics transformers. Its 12-inch speakers were designed by Weber and made by Eminence and are fitted with alnico magnets for an immensely dynamic and sensitive vintage response. The heart of the Fender EC Twinolux consists of four 12AX7 preamp tubes, two 6L6GE power amp Groove Tubes and two 5U4GB rectifier tubes. All of this is neatly tucked away in a finger-joined solid-pine housing for a warm, resonant tone. Of course the combo was adorned with a traditional lacquered tweed finish with brown detailing.
