Allmänt

There are many ways to describe this interface but we will mostly call it 'special'. The Juli@ XTe build-in interface is rather unique as it equipped with connectors that you can change within a second! You can choose from the built-in, balanced 6.35 mm jack plug connectors or the unbalanced RCA connectors.

Concept of the Juli@ XTe
After the success of the first Juli@, ESI wanted something new. It was clear that they needed a PCI Expression version. But ESI wanted something extra. That extra can now be found in the part of the print board. The interface is divided into three parts. The print board has two connector bridges with the jack and RCA connectors, a main print board for processing capacity equipped with a single connector bridge and of course the front panel. Thanks to the double connector bridge, you can simply turn the print board around! You can turn the jacks into tulip connectors or vice versa. The two elements are firmly put together by means of the screw connection.

Connection and use of the interface
More creative and varying setups are possible, thanks to the different analogue and digital connections. The interface has two inputs and two outputs, both are analogue. A S/PDIF digital in or output, just like a coaxial S/PDIF connector are equipped with a fully automatic shutter and synchronisation. A MIDI connector is also available which can be used as an input or as an output.

Omdat praktisch geen één moederbord, hoe uitgebreid ook, tegenwoordig spdif in heeft en alleen spdif uit, is een digitale geluidsfreak nog steeds genoodzaakt een extra geluidskaart aan te schaffen, die toch gauw meer dan de helft van bijvoorbeeld een Asus Z97 De Luxe bord kost. Maar dit is wel een prima pci-express kaart. Digitaal coaxiaal in-uit en met verwisselbare analoge in- en uitgangen; rca of stereo jack, dus asymmetrisch of symmetrisch. Dat laatste is natuurlijk de slagroom op de taart. Simpel te installeren, helder interface en met als extraatje een 'Directwire' patchpanel. Verder wil ik niet onvermeld laten dat Bax-shop scherp in prijs en altijd open is. Ook op zondag kleine bestellingen gereed maakt en het qua verzendkosten zeer 'çhristelijk' houdt.

Version courte: J'ai retourné la carte après 1 semaine.
En détail:
Le plus: La carte en-soi est plutôt correcte, un son propre et relativement neutre. Et franchement, j'ai immédiatement apprécié le rendu sur une machine dédiée MAO. Voilà le seul point positif (d'où la 2èmem étoile).

Les moins:
- L'interface/GUI est vraiment moche, elle aurait fait bon effet sur Win95 ou même 98.
- L'intégration dans Windows est TRES mal pensée! Un très bon exemple de pourquoi faire simple quand on peut faire compliqué. Même en tenant compte du fait que c'est une carte "semi-pro", la gestion des modes d'enregistrement via le mode DirectWire est un vrai boulet.
- Impossible de changer la latence via le DAW (FL studio ou Studio One). Donc obligé de quitter votre session, d'ouvrir l'interface de la carte son, changer la latence, et ré-ouvrir votre DAW. Non mais quelle aberration!
- L'application est installée dans le répertoire System32! Et il n'y a rien d'autre que l'exécutable. Donc si vous cherchez le manuel (car il n'y a même pas un menu "aide" dans la GUI de carte!) soit faut chargez le CD (qui n'est PAS un installeur, au fait) ou alors en ligne pour chercher le manuel.
- Le process de la carte "Juli@XTe.exe" plante tout le temps. Et quand ça plante, pas d'autre choix que de rebooter l'ordi.
- Le service client dESI est quasi-inexistant (1 réponse, sur 4 mails envoyés)
- Etc. etc...

Pour une carte à 220, c'est vraiment de l'abus!

Petit détail: la carte a été livrée dans un emballage en état moyen. Peut-être un transporteur peu scrupuleux...
