About the ukulele

Portuguese immigrants from Madeira were actually responsible for bringing the ukulele's predecessor - the machete - to the islands, where it would become the instrument we know and love today. The ukulele has enjoyed great popularity all over the world, but especially in Hawaii, the US and Mexico. Its smaller size (compared to a classical guitar) is understandably responsible for the smaller, distinctive ukulele sound that really cuts through the mix.
