For over thirty years Tama has been making drums out of birch, but for this series, they decided to combine birch with bubinga. The toms and floor toms have three inner plies of bubinga and four outer plies of birch, while the bass drum adds an additional ply of birch. Thanks to such a unique composition, this shell set has a powerful attack and nicely emphasised low frequencies. The PP42S-SPW features a Satin Pearl White lacquer finish.
Starclassic Performer shell set
This model is a four-piece shell set that consists of a 22 x 18-inch bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms, and a 16 x 14-inch floor tom. The toms can be mounted to the new MTH1000 tom holder, which has a ball joint that allows you to mount the toms at the best possible angle. The StarCast mounting system suspends the toms from the hoops, and mounting your toms has never been easier, thanks to the Quick Lock system. The floor tom is fitted with Air Cushioned legs, which have a special air chamber that prevents vibrations from disappearing into the ground.
Hoops
The hoops of the toms and floor toms are die-cast, which means they don't have any structural weak points. This benefits the tension of the drumheads and, because of that, the sound of the drums. The bass drum has wooden hoops, which are held in place by claw hooks with rubber linings. This rubber lining prevents the hoops form being damaged and ensures that the claw hooks don't start rattling if you tune your drumhead quite loosely. Finally, all shells have chrome-plated hardware.
