Allmänt
Because of its great sound, Tama has been using birch in their drums for over thirty years. For their Starclassic Performer BB series shell set, however, they chose to combine the birch with bubinga to give the shells both a powerful attack and nicely emphasised lows. This three-piece shell set consists of a 22 x 16-inch virgin bass drum, a 12 x 8-inch tom and a 16 x 16-inch floor tom, while the Satin Pearl White finish gives them a distinguished look.
Shell thickness
The toms consist of three plies of bubinga and four plies of birch and are 6 mm thick, while the bass drum has an additional ply of birch, making it 8 mm thick. The tom is fitted with the StarCast tom mounting system, which suspends it from the hoop for optimal resonance, while the Quick-Lock system allows you to mount or remove it very quickly. Furthermore, the floor tom features special Air Cushioned legs that keep the vibrations contained in the drum, by preventing them from disappearing into the ground.
Hardware
The bass drum hoops are kept in place by special claw hooks with a rubber lining that protects the hoops from being damaged and that prevents the hooks from rattling if your bass drum is tuned very loosely. Both the tom and floor tom hoops are die-cast, which means they have no structural weak points, and all shell hardware is chrome-plated.
