Allmänt
Ludwig's Signet 105 series was introduced to celebrate the company's 105th anniversary. Each shell set in this line offers a highly professional sound at a remarkably low price. The only catch (if you can even call it that) is that drummers will have to perform the final stages of assembly themselves. The shells, hoops, heads, tension rods, lugs and brackets of this American-made drum kit are all delivered unassembled. However, thanks to a dash of Ludwig ingenuity, assembling the kit is an absolute breeze. This particular model, the Ludwig LSS240XLA Signet 105 TeraBeat, is a 4-piece kit with a gorgeous Alpine Blue finish.
Assembling the LSS240XLA
The LSS240XLA is a Terabeat kit, which means it's a four-piece that consists of a 22" bass drum, 16" floor tom, and 10 and 12" toms. You start with just the shells, which have pre-drilled lug mounts that allow you to simply snap the aptly named Insta-Lite Snap-In lugs into place. After that, you can use the included drum key to mount the Triad brackets for the floor tom legs and tom mounts. Finally, you can use the tension rods to mount the hoops and drumheads to the shells. Everything you'll need for assembly is included with the kit, and the whole construction process should take no more than about half an hour.
Look and feel
In crafting the Signet 105 series' shells, Ludwig exclusively used North-American maple, which is the same wood they use in their high-end drum kits. Those shells, combined with the 45-degree bearing edges and included high-quality Ludwig Weathermaster drumheads, offer a beautifully warm sound that will please both amateurs and professionals. The Triad tom holders also add to that gorgeous sound by allowing the toms to resonate freely. Finally, each drum is finished with a gorgeous veneer with a thin layer of satin lacquer.
