Gretsch's Broadkaster series presents reissues of the popular classic Broadkaster drum kits from the 1950s. The BK-J483-AP is a three-piece shell set with an 18-inch bass drum, a 12-inch tom and a 14-inch floor tom - an ideal configuration for small-scale gigs. Thanks to an Antique Pearl lacquer finish, the shell set has the same gorgeous gleam as the Broadkasters of old.
Classic shells with new hardware
Like the old Broadkaster shells, the shells of the BK-J483-AP set are quite thin, ensuring a full sound with lots of resonance. The 3-ply shells consist of two layers of maple with a layer of poplar in between - wood types that deliver a solid low end and make the set suitable for any type of music. Even though this Gretsch Broadkaster set has been modelled after a classic, its hardware is distinctly modern. The tom, for instance, has been suspended from its hoop to enhance its resonating capabilities. The bass drum is fitted with stable telescopic legs and the floor tom has legs with memory locks.
A Modern Bop Kit
The configuration with an 18-inch bass drum is referred to by Gretsch as the Modern Bop Kit, an allusion to the classic status of the Broadkaster series. The white Remo bass drum head is decorated with the vintage logo, and the Satin Maple hoops of the bass drum have an Antique Pearl inlay. The bearing edges of the shells have been finished with a reverse roundover technique, which enhances the surface contact between shell and drumhead, resulting in a full sound.
