The synthesizer is a new enough instrument that it still has a relatively concise history. In fact, 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of Yamaha's first synthesizer, the analogue SY-1, which came out in 1974. Since then, the analogue synth has evolved, and you'll find modern versions in the Yamaha's Motif series. In celebration of their 40 years of synthesizer success, Yamaha is offering this Motif XF6 with a 40th anniversary box, which includes an extra 1,024MB flash memory module and a USB stick with 4 GB of extra content! This edition also offers another extra memory module for more than 2 GB of sample room, making it a cinch to use your own patches or backing tracks; thanks to the flash system, you don't have to worry about slower loading times either!
Yamaha Motif XF6 40th Anniversary: sounds
It's hard to know where to begin when it comes to describing the excellent sound of the Motif XF. With its impressive wave ROM (741 MB), AWM2 engine with Expanded Articulation, and 128-voice polyphony, this top-of-the-line work station offers the best in realistic sound. The impressive variety of samples include Yamaha grand pianos, electric pianos, countless organs, strings, percussion and horns, which all offer sweetly subtle dynamic layers. Every keyboard player is sure to find inspiration in the studio and on stage with the extra sounds offered with the 40th anniversary box. This particular version features 61 semi-weighted keys (FSX keyboard) and is the lightest and most compact model in the series. Even so, you can rest assured that it's just as robust as its larger counterparts, because Motif models have always been built for the road.
VCM effects and digital integration
Good sounds are a must, but they really come to life with the DSP effects, which sound just as great. Yamaha has always been strong when it comes to effects, but the Virtual Circuitry Modeling effects featured in the Motif really have that high-grade sound of studio plugins. Moreover, most of the effects have been edited in great detail, so the sound that you hear in your head is easy to produce with the Motif. Furthermore, the XF6 WH is equipped with a Remote Control function, so it can be fully integrated with your DAW. It's compatible with Cubase, Sonar, ProTools, Logic and Digital Performer, so you can use the various faders and rotary knobs to control the software functions. Perfect for studio use.
