Allmänt
In the early 1980s, the TB-303 was not even that notable. That changed in the 1990s, though, and the price of a second-hand one shot through the roof. Lots of imitations appeared on the market, some more successful than others, which is actually still the case today. Take the German-made Mode Machines X0xb0x (pronounced "zocks box") MK3 V3 bass synthesizer, for example. The sound is incredibly accurate thanks to the individual approach to these products - not a single X0xb0x unit leaves the factory without being calibrated by a technician to sound as much like the original 303 as possible.
Characteristics of the Mode Machines x0xb0x MK3 V3
This machine has a 100% analogue signal path and all the classic functions of the original TB-303; the sequencer, the accent/slide/rest buttons, the screaming resonance of the low-pass filter - you'll be ready to serve up a healthy dose of Goa trance in no time! Contrary to the original 303, the X0xb0x V3 has MIDI and USB, making it easy to integrate into a modern studio. At the same time, the X0xb0x can still be used in 'older' studios thanks to its DIN-sync and CV/gate.
Integration
This X0xb0x has a flexible brain; you can even upgrade unofficial firmware via USB. It's unavoidable that whizzkids will make their own, seeing as you can compile code using any Mac, Windows, or Linux computer these days. You can also use the USB connection to edit patterns and tracks with JAVA software. Naturally, all this needs to look good too! The X0xb0x sports excellent potentiometers, characteristically small buttons and knobs, a metallic-grey finish and 40 LEDs - it's just an awesome-looking thing!
