Allmänt
The Korg Volca FM is a compact comprehensive synthesizer. FM synthesis is something that has been missing from this series, until now. FM synthesis is a way to make thousands of sounds by modulating the frequency of an oscillator (vibrato) with the output of another oscillator. With an analogue synthesizer this process would be done with an LFO, but with FM synthesis a regular oscillator is used. Because the rate of oscillation is so high, the vibrato can no longer be heard, but a change in sound will be heard instead. FM synthesis revolutionised music in the '80s and FM sounds are still found on synthesizers today. Whether you're aware of it or not, you've almost certainly heard an FM sound.
The Power of the Korg Volca FM Synthesizer
With a polyphony of three, the Volca FM won't be your only synthesizer. But amongst other synthesizers it will give you that typical, rich FM sound that cuts through any mix with ease. The real beauty of the Korg Volca FM though is that fact that you can create nearly everything with FM synthesis, whether that's lead, bass and metal sounds or sound effects. While it doesn't have the same complexity and extensive controls of the Yamaha DX7 (the device that made FM synsthesis popular in the '80s), that's no bad thing. Here you get a handful of parameters so that you can get started quickly and easily. The Volca FM is compatible with the DX7 and can load its files, so all of its sounds are possible. You can even find its sounds on the internet!

An arpeggiator is included for making familiar riffs straight out of the '80s. For warm pad and string sounds, there's also a chorus effect, something the DX7 didn't have. The real power of this machine though perhaps lies in the sync connectors that allow you to connect two Volca FM's together for a polyphony of six. Connecting other Volca's is no problem either, of course. Finally, the Korg Volca FM is highly portable thanks to it compact size, and it works up to 10 hours on 6 AA batteries (included). In short, the Volca FM is versatile, adventurous and fun.

Een mooi ding, maaaar.....ga hem niet updaten.....dit gat fout, dat werkt met het overzenden van geluid. Mijn Voca FM is nu zo dood als een pier. Maar als ie het doet een prachtig ding.

Heerlijke fm synthesizer in het formaat van de volca series. Ontzettend krachtige synthesizer, zeker voor het formaat en de prijs. Het enige nadeel is dat, als je zelf een geluid wilt maken, je veel moet doen aan 'menu-diving'. Er zijn echter online websites zodat je makkelijker geluiden kunt tweaken. In elk geval een echte aanrader!

Love this little box of 80s joy. For less than a couple of weeks commuting to London (saved by working from home!) you can have a lot more fun than the commute, although this box is small enough to take away with you. I've been enjoying hooking up an old zoom multi effects guitar pedal and getting creative.. There is a bit of menu diving but you can always hook up to midi and use DX7 patch editors instead.
Well worth the purchase!

This is a fantastic piece of equipment packed nicely for a very decent price. Probably my favourite Volca so far. It really is a great little box and it is probably one of the most user friendly synths for beginners in FM synthesis. Love the retro 80's design too.

Le format compact est parfait pour lemporter partout avec soi. Le nombre de paramètres est très important, ce qui permet de générer tout type de son. Cependant, la prise en main prendra un temps certain.

M'n eerste Volca.
Even wennen, aangezien ik onbekend ben met FM-synthese, maar de kaart met algoritmes en parameters, alsmede de nodige youtubefilmpjes en online uitleg over FM-synthese zijn van grote hulp.
Nog even druk ontdekken met het zelf maken van geluiden 'from scratch', al zijn sommige presets al goed om te gebruiken en mee te tweaken, al dan niet via MIDI en sync aangesloten op m'n Monologue of MicroKorg, met de nodige effecten.
FM-synthese, maar dan begrijpelijk gemaakt, en volgens mij een stuk overzichtelijker dan op de originele DX-modellen.

M'n 4e Volca. De FM. Schijnt de ingewikkeldste te zijn van de serie (alchoritmes etc.) maar tot nu toe vermaak ik me er prima mee. Past goed in m'n volca collectie.
Razendsnel binnen. Niks op aan te merken. Altijd vertrouwd bestellen bij Bax.
