Allmänt
Made of hardwood and warm in sound: the Meinl SU18AB-M surdo. This surdo has a less deep shell than is usual with a traditional surdo. Based on a design from the Brazilian province of Bahia, which makes this surdo excellent for samba-reggae music. As many as 6 layers of hardwood have been used for the SUB18AB-M's shell. This ensures a warm sound and a beautiful appearance. Its compact size gives you room to move freely during samba performances.
Meinl Bahia surdo: flashy parts
This 18-inch surdo is my compact size excellent for the fastest surdo part: the cutador. Cutador parts are characterised by slightly more complex and faster rhythms compared to the largest surdo. The batter has a black colour and a slight damping, giving it a dull surdo sound. All shell hardware has a chromed finish which blends well with the dark brown lacquer finish. A fine surdo excellent for use in samba reggae. Supplied with tuning key.
