For a proper reproduction of a studio mix, you really need a pair of genuine studio monitors, which meet the required demands with regards to frequency curve, power capacity, connector and housing. This black Akai RPM800 is fully equipped for the task at hand. This rugged monitor is equipped with a built-in, 120W bi-amp amplifier module that sends 80 watts to the woofer and 40 watts to the tweeter. Thanks to a crossover, all frequencies are efficiently divided between the 1.25-inch silk-dome tweeter and the woofer which, at a size of 8 inches, is large enough to reproduce even the heaviest bass tones without any effort.

Akai RPM800: rugged components

The large woofer, with its striking red cone, is made of Kevlar, a material with rigid fibres that ensures a quick response and tight, clear bass tones without any noise. The housing of the RPM800 is equipped with a bass reflex port at the rear and has a solid design that prevents sonic artifacts from tainting your mix. The monitor is supplied with a monitor isolation pad, which keeps your sound nice and clean by preventing unwanted desktop or stand resonance.

Connectors and security measures

Fitted with combined XLR/jack and RCA inputs, the rear panel of the RPM800 offers both balanced and unbalanced connectors. Several switches allow you to control the cut-off for the low frequencies, the mid boost and the treble level, and a proximity control switch enables you to adjust the sound characteristics of the RMP800 to suit the environment. To keep its components safe at all times, the studio monitor is equipped with an output current limiter, an over-temperature limiter and a subsonic filter.
