The ECM-VG1 has a super-cardioid, or uni-directional pickup pattern. As such, it records all sound coming from the front, largely ignoring input from the sides and the back. That way, speakers are clearly intelligible, even in a noisy environment. The Sony shotgun microphone is supplied with an accessory windscreen, which makes it ideal for outdoor applications. The windscreen reduces wind noise to a minimum, without affecting the audio quality of your recordings. As the ECM-VG1 is a condenser microphone, it requires +48V phantom power to function properly.
