RME MadiFace Pro audio interface

In 2015, RME released the Babyface Pro to the public, who welcomed it with open arms; in fact, it's now considered one of the standards in the world of high-end desktop recording. A year later, RME launched a worthy interface that will surely fill the shoes of its predecessor - the MadiFace Pro with no fewer than 64 channels! It's just as stylish-looking but offers a MADI interface instead of the ADAT I/O the BabyFace was known for.

Basic functionality of the RME MadiFace Pro

As far as connections are concerned, the RME MadiFace Pro offers two analogue mic/line/XLR inputs for your microphones and two XLR outputs. It features two universal TRS inputs for line instruments and two stereo TRS outputs for headphones with either low or high impedance. With TotalMix FX, the MadiFace Pro offers unsurpassed mixing possibilities by means of a 3-band parametric equalizer and a reverb as well as echo/delay. A MIDI in and output tops off an already impressive list of features.

MADI port and iOS functionality

With the MADI interface, you'll have 64 channels with a sample rate of 192 kHz for both inputs and outputs at your disposal. All analogue inputs and outputs can be used simultaneously for a total of 68 channels, inputs and outputs via USB 2. The MADIface is supplied with power through the USB port, except when MADI functionality is activated. In that case, you can use the included power adapter. When you want to record with your iPad, simply download the iOS app TotalMix FX for iPad. With it, you can fully operate the MadiFace and insert a maximum of 24 channels at the same time via MADI - 4 analogue channels and 20 MADI channels.

Standalone mode

As if all this wasn't impressive enough, the MadiFace Pro also functions as a standalone unit. Navigation via the device's display - which is used to monitor incoming levels - is simple and intuitive. This functionality was also present on the BabyFace Pro, but has been revamped in this newer model. It features a handy MADI monitoring function in standalone mode wherein channels 1 through 64 are transferred completely unaltered from input to output. During this process, the MadiFace Pro uses an integrated SteadyClock III engine that synchronises incoming and outgoing signals with amazing accuracy.
