If you take a look at the back of your Behringer X32 digital mixer you'll find an expansion slot. As a standard, it's filled with an X-USB expansion card, but Behringer has designed multiple expansion cards so the mixer can be integrated into just about any studio or live setup. One such example is this Behringer X-ADAT Expansion Card, which features eight ADAT ports, so you can simulate a total of 32 in/out channels. In order to ensure that all of the devices are properly synchronised with one another, the Behringer X-ADAT Expansion Card also has a Wordclock connector.
X-ADAT: ADAT protocol
For years, ADAT has been a standard in studios; professional sound cards, mixers, preamplifiers, converters and HD recorders are all equipped with this connector. The X-ADAT has thus been designed as the perfect solution for studio and live recordings via HD recorders with an ADAT interface.
