The Roland Torcido is the distortion effect module in Roland's Eurorack range. Distortion isn't the most subtle of effects; apply it to a bass sound with a resonating filter and you'll know exactly what we mean. The Torcido is a great creative tool for synth fans, guitarists, DJs and keyboard players alike. Its internal components are all digital, but thanks to its highly accurate 24-bit encoders, you can achieve the most detailed results.
Characteristics of the Roland Torcido
This 21HP Eurorack module can be mounted in a rack, of course, but it's also possible to just place it on your desk. Featuring modern technology, it can be programmed using an external PC or Mac, or even an iOS or Android device. Astute observers may have already spotted the word 'tube' on the module's front panel. Indeed, the Torcido is capable of producing that recognisable tube sound that goes so well with a distortion effect. Just like the Eurorack effect's low-frequency boost, it can be tweaked at will.
Modular system
The great thing about a modular system is that it offers you plenty of opportunity to set up effects just the way you want them. With non-modular systems, these algorithms are usually fixed, and built to provide a practical, mainstream solution. If you're an adventurous sound designer looking to break the mould, a modular system like this one will suit you much better. The Roland Scooper module is fitted with CV/gate patch holes, which means it can be incorporated into a system with other CV/gate devices, such as the Roland System-1m.
