Guitar manufacturers are sometimes a little too conservative with their designs. Every so often though, innovative new features appear on models that everyone can appreciate. In the case of the Jackson Soloist Archtop SLAT7 FF, that would be its fanned frets and individual bridge saddles. It has a scale length of 27 inches at the low B string and 25.5 inches at the high E string. This improves the intonation and gives it a high degree of playability because the tension at the lower strings is tighter than it otherwise would be. The Jackson SLAT7 FF is certainly one model that can't be accused of being too conservative.

Soloist Archtop SLAT7 FF: well-defined sound

The body is made of basswood that gives this 7-string metal guitar its warm, powerful and heavy sound. It's fitted with two active EMG 808 humbuckers that prevent the sound from becoming too muddy, so that all the notes sound tight and well defined. Virtually endless sustain is produced thanks to the neck-thru construction, that also makes each of the 24 jumbo frets on the rosewood fretboard easily accessible. When it comes to looks, the Jackson SLAT7 FF keeps things nice and simple and, as such, doesn't feature any position markers.

Compound fretboard radius

The Soloist Archtop features a compound fretboard radius that goes from 12 to 16 inches. It becomes more rounded towards the headstock and flattens out at the higher frets, making both chords and complex solos easier to play. A flatter fretboard makes it easier to push down the strings and lowers the chance of notes being cut off prematurely. The AT1 headstock ensures that the strings run in a straight line to the nut, thereby enhancing the tuning stability.
