Gretsch's Electromatic Collection offers affordable editions of renowned Gretsch classics. This black G5435 Pro Jet, for instance, has the same well-known shape as the Duo Jet from the 1950s, a solid-body electric guitar with a single cutaway and a 22-fret set neck. This new edition of the Pro Jet features a couple of upgrades, however: the G5435 is equipped with a set of original Gretsch Black Top Filter'Tron pickups, and the original thumbnail position markers have been replaced by elegant, more visible hump block inlays.
Body and neck of the Gretsch G5435 Pro Jet
Compared to other Gretsch models, the G5435 Pro Jet has a slimmer body, more along the lines of a solid-body electric guitar. Its basswood body has a chambered construction, however, making the instrument comfortably light of weight and producing an open, almost acoustic sound. Both the neck and the beautifully arched top of the Pro Jet are made of maple. The set neck increases the sustain of the instrument, and is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard. Thanks to the combination of wood types and the construction of the guitar, the G5435 Pro Jet delivers the characteristically open and clear Gretsch sound with tight lows and rich mids, ideal for rock to rockabilly!
Pickups and finish
The G5435 Pro Jet is equipped with a set of original Gretsch Black Top FilterTron pickups, which have been modelled after the pickups from the Gretsch-Baldwin period sound-wise. They provide a little more output and a delightfully sparkling sound, and they're ideal for various music styles, ranging from fingerpicking to high-gain metal. A three-way pickup switch, a volume knob per pickup, a master tone knob and a master volume knob enable you to create a variety of sounds, suited for any genre from jazz and rockabilly to rock and pop. The sides and back of the Gretsch G5435 Pro Jet are equipped with a transparent walnut stain lacquer that subtly shows the grain of the wood.
