Tony Iommi's iconic riffs and thick sound helped pen the hugely influential Black Sabbath albums that laid the foundations of heavy metal as well know it - and the many other sub-genres that followed. Tony's catalogue, like the man himself, is cherished and honoured worldwide and, at the centre of it all lies his heavily modified 1964 Gibson SG. The custom SG formed an essential part of that instantly recognizable sound, and here, Gibson presents an ode to that double-horned icon in the tight form of the Tony Iommi "Monkey" SG Special.
The Gibson Tony Iommi "Monkey" SG Special: Pure Gibson
To start, the Gibson Tony Iommi "Monkey" SG Special comes dipped in a timeless coat of Vintage Cherry, showing off the natural grain of the solid mahogany body and set-in neck that lies beneath, and laying down that full and familiar, Gibson-grade acoustic foundation. The neck has also been given a super-comfy, round profile while the Indian rosewood fretboard has been loaded with twenty-two frets and topped with a reliable Graph Tech nut. Inside the included hardshell case, you get a reproduction of the monkey sticker that Tony slapped on his original model way back when, as well as two longer intonation adjustment keys to expand the setup options.
