To honour 70 years of the Strat, Fender presents the Custom Shop 1967 Stratocaster Relic. Taking things right back to where it all started, the body of this Time Machine Series offering has been sealed in a satisfyingly aged and weathered nitrocellose lacquer and loaded with undeniably cool Closet Classic hardware. The oversized headstock is yet another throwback feature and, since this is a Custom Shop creation, the body has been shaped from two specially selected chunks of alder and combined with a quarter-sawn maple neck. The round-lam rosewood fretboard is outlined in luxurious parchment binding to complete the vintage vibes and, to really sweeten the deal, Fender has included a hardshell case, a strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
The Fender Time Machine 1967 Strat: The Mistress
To make absolutely certain that the oh-so familiar foundation sound of this late-sixties Strat is fully translated over to your amplifier of choice, the Fender Custom Shop has picked out a set of three hand-wound '66 Strat Pickups and carefully mounted each of them onto a matching three-ply parchment pickguard. The five-way switch is even backed up by Vintage Modified #2 wiring complete with a tone-saver bleed circuit so that, even at lower volume settings, you still get the full Strat experience. From there, period-correct playability is 100% assured by the '60s-style Oval-C back-shape neck profile, the 9.5 inch fretboard radius and the set of twenty-one narrow-tall 6105 frets. Add on the Custom Shop Vintage synchronised tremolo bridge and set of vintage-style machine heads and you have yourself an ultra-stable mistress of tone.
