Are you a fan of distinctly shaped vintage guitars, but does your wallet already feel lighter than it should? Eastwood has the answer with their modern reissues of quirky guitar models from the fifties and sixties. This Airline MAP DLX in Seafoam Green, for instance, is modelled after the 1962 National MAP guitar. This was originally a budget guitar made of fibreglass, with a unique shape that resembled that of the United States of America. However, this Eastwood Airline MAP DLX is a modern version that has been improved in many ways.

Eastwood Airline MAP DLX: modern construction

The original guitar had a body made of two bolted-together pieces of fibreglass with a wooden beam in the middle. These so-called Res-O-Glass models had a fairly weak construction with little tonal properties. The Eastwood Airline MAP DLX, however, has a mahogany body that is partially hollow for reduced weight, increased resonance and rich mids. The comfortable maple neck features a rosewood fretboard with 22 frets and elegant block inlays. Thanks to its relatively short scale length of 24.75 inches, this guitar is surprisingly easy and smooth to play.

Hardware and electronics

Eastwood's Airline MAP DLX is equipped with two Alnico Hot-10 humbucker pickups that produce a full, rich, clear sound in three positions, despite their high output. In addition to a 3-position pickup switch, this guitar was given a volume control and a master tone control for each pickup. Its bridge is a Tune-O-Matic with roller saddles. Combined with the Bigsby tremolo, this bridge allows you to create wild vibrato effects without jeopardising the guitar's tuning. To fully complete the picture, this guitar has a National-style pickguard with the characteristic striping.
