Every drummer's probably been there: you're interested in getting an electronic drum kit, but it's either the size or the price that keeps putting you off. With the Crimson II Special Edition, Alesis might just offer you the deal of a lifetime! More than reasonably priced, this 9-piece electronic drum kit comes complete with a broad rack and a hugely comprehensive drum module.
The Alesis Crimson II Special Edition
So what makes the Alesis Crimson II Special Edition so 'special'? Next to its unique black and red finish, Alesis have fitted the kit with their latest generation mesh-heads, making it even quieter and more realistic in terms of playing feel compared to its predecessors. Both 8-inch toms, the 10-inch floor tom and the 12-inch snare are dual zone heads, but for completeness' sake, you're also getting an 8-inch kick pad (suitable for double bass) and a 4-piece cymbal set including a 12-inch hi-hat, two 12-inch crash pads with choke function and a 14-inch triple-zone ride pad.
The Crimson II Advanced Drum Module
As the use of 'Advanced' indicates, the drum module of the Alesis Crimson II Special Edition kit overflows with smart and useful functions. Besides the pre-programmed drum kits, there's room for 20 user-made kits and you're even free to load in your own .wav samples via the USB port. The samples can then be assigned to any zone of any of the pads. Similarly, it's also possible to load in complete songs, hook up a phone or tablet to the AUX input to play along to your favourite tunes, or simply select one of the 120 built-in tracks. Whatever you decide, your playing can be recorded or, if needed, improved by using the metronome function.
Inputs and Outputs
On the back of the module you'll find most the inputs and outputs, including the headphone mini-jack and the jack line outputs that give you the choice of playing with a pair of headphones on or through an amplifier. The kit can be easily connected to either a Windows or Mac computer via USB-MIDI to make recordings or to use it as an external MIDI controller. Last but not least, the module allows for the possibility to expand the Alesis Crimson II Special Edition with an extra tom and cymbal pad (not included).

De mesh vellen voelen fijn aan, en de kick functioneert prima met mijn dubbele pedaal.
Doordat de instellingen gescheiden zijn in de 'feel' van de pads en de 'geluiden' van de kits kun je verschillende kits laten klinken, met de zelfde feel van de set.
Mooie set voor dit geld, en ziet er ook nog mooi uit.
En op de service van Bax was als van ouds niets aan te merken.

Aan het begin is het wel even zoeken naar het juiste geluid, ook omdat er heel veel mogelijk is qua instellingen binnen een bepaalde tom of snare.
Maar met een beetje geduld en liefde kom je een heel eind!
