There's quite a bit of difference between your average electric guitar and a classical model. A classical guitar has a much deeper body, and its neck is usually quite a bit shorter and wider. As such, most guitarists need a moment or two to adjust when quickly switching between the two. That's not a big problem in the studio, but when you're playing live it can lead to uncomfortable delays. Luckily, the Cort Sunset Nylectric (here in a Natural finish) bridges the gap between the two models. On the one hand, it has the feel of an electric solid-body guitar, while on the other hand it sounds like an authentic classical guitar.

Construction

As the Cort Sunset Nylectric NAT's body is made of solid mahogany, this guitar is quite a bit thinner than your average classical guitar. It has several sound chambers inside and a spruce top that contrasts nicely with the warm mahogany in both look and sound. Furthermore, the bolted-on mahogany neck has a 25.6" scale length and is 45 mm wide at the string nut. In other words, the neck is much more like that of an electric guitar than that of a classical one.

Fishman Sonicore VTB EQ

From their choice of hardware, it becomes readily apparent that Cort does not see the Nylectric as a one-off novelty. They chose to use a Fishman Sonicore piezo pickup that's linked to a Sonicore VTB EQ premp – a combination that's especially designed to work with the unique tonal properties of nylon strings. This results in a sound that is both powerful and organic, and that's great for both studio work and live performances. If you wish, you can use the 2-band equaliser to adjust the bass and treble, and there's a volume control as well, of course.
