The long-awaited Sabian Hoop Crasher (14-inch), designed by Jojo Mayer, is a double effect ring that can be placed on the batter head of a 14-inch snare or tom. If you hit the middle of the head, you will hear little more than the regular sound of your tom or snare drum. When you hit the head closer to the Hoop Crasher (or hit the Hoop Crasher itself), there is no mistaking the unique, biting sound that it adds to your drum. This means you can adjust the intensity of the effect as you play.
The high-quality Hoop Crasher
For two years, Sabian worked with Jojo Mayer to design the Hoop Crasher. During that process, Mayer and several other drummers used the Hoop Crasher prototypes on their drum kits regularly and with great success. The two rings have been made from high-quality B20 bronze hi-hats (and not recycled cymbals), which has a very positive impact on their sound. The bottom ring's Air Wave edge ensures minimal contact with the drumhead, in order to maintain as much of the drum's original character as possible.
The two rings
The top ring has been fitted with 32 holes and is attached to the bottom ring. However, the two rings can also be detached and placed loosely on top of each other, resulting in a very different sound. Furthermore, the Jojo Mayer Hoop Crasher also comes with three special, adjustable C-clamps. These allow you to adjust the length of the rings' sustain, and they prevent the Hoop Crasher from bouncing off the drumhead when your playing gets a little intense.
