That the Yamaha CVP-705B digital piano in Black Walnut will look mighty good in your living room is quite apparent. That's not all there is to this Yamaha Clavinova, however - it features excellent sounds and a fantastic playing experience, never mind the veritable plethora of accompaniment styles. Contrary to many other digital pianos, the CVP-705 isn't just an imitation of a regular piano, it can also accompany your playing in a style of your choosing. Furthermore, it features a Guide function with Follow Lights that show you exactly which keys to play. This particular model features a matte black Black Walnut finish.

CVP-705B: differences with the 701

As far as sound, comfort and features go, the CVP-705B is somewhere in between the 701 and the 709. For instance, while the 701 has a GH3X keyboard, the 705 has NWX keys: Natural Wood keys with a highly realistic grand piano feel. This enhanced realism is also apparent in the instrument's sound. Instead of just two, this Clavinova has 4 built-in speakers, for a richer sound. Furthermore, its colour display is bigger than the 701's, and it is touch-sensitive to boot, making controlling the digital piano even easier. Of course, it also features more instruments, more accompaniment styles and a harmony function, which adds harmonies to your vocals.

Piano Room and USB

A particularly inspiring feature of the CVP-700 series' pianos is the Piano Room. This is home to not only top-quality grand piano sounds, but also to various classic electric pianos, as well as the Session Mode. The latter mode has three virtual musicians standing by to accompany you 'live' in one of forty available styles. Besides your harmonies, they also follow your volume and intensity, thanks to the Dynamics Control feature. Do you want to record your playing? No problem! Connect a USB stick, and everything will be stored in WAV file format. You can also play back WAV files, and even adjust their tempo and pitch.

Yamaha Clavinova CVP-705B Black Walnut digitalpiano

Inmiddels bijna anderhalf jaar in het bezit van dit model, de CVP-705B. Naar mijn professionele en persoonlijke mening echt waar voor je geld. Een zeer stijlvol instrument, erg strak vormgegeven. Het fineer ziet er ook erg fraai uit voor een standaard afwerking. Verdere highlights van deze piano zijn de toetsen (emuleren het gevoel van een gemiddelde vleugel vrij goed door het NWX klavier), het uitgebreide pakket aan gesamplede instrumenten, synthesizers en dergelijke, de bediening middels het touchscreen, het kunnen opnemen van alles wat je speelt en de adaptiviteit van het instrument in het geheel. Één minpunt, en daarmee de enige reden waarom deze digitale piano voor mij geen vijf maar vier sterren krijgt, is de stevigheid van de pedalen. Ik hoop dat het alleen bij mijn piano is, maar ik hoor het veermechanisme in mijn rechter pedaal erg luid verspringen bij gebruik en dat werkt nogal storend. Mocht je deze piano overwegen (en het is nog altijd een aanrader), adviseer ik om hierop te letten.
