The legendary Ramon 'Mongo' Santamaria was one of the most respected conga players in the world. With his band Black Cuban Diamonds, he laid the foundation for modern latin-jazz music. Songs like Watermelon Man and the album Summertime are just a few examples of this grand master's legacy. Santamaria died in Miami at 85 years of age, but his spirit lives on in Meinl's MSA11AWA Artist series quinto.

This 11-inch MSA11AWA quinto's drumhead is made of high-quality buffalo hide. Combined with the two-ply American white ash shell, that creates a beautifully rich sound with warm overtones.
