Few people could play the conga as passionately as Ramon 'Mongo' Santamaria did. The Cuban percussionist, known for his work with Black Cuban Diamonds, has worked on dozens of legendary albums, and he is one of the founding fathers of modern latin-jazz. He died at 85 years old in Miami, and as a tribute to this great conga player, Meinl designed the MSA1134AWA conga.

As it's made of high-quality materials, Meinl's MSA1134AWA offers a distinct sound that perfectly matches the music that the late Ramon Santamaria would play. For instance, the two-ply American white ash shell gives the sound warmth and richness, while the buffalo hide drumhead and 10mm strong lugs allow for a powerful attack. Furthermore, Meinl ensured that this conga is as stylish as the late Mongo himself. The gold-coloured hardware and glossy lacquer really set if off.
