Allmänt
The Canela cajon is made by Spanish brand Manuel Rodriguez, who also makes Spanish Flamenco and classical guitars. This expansion to include cajons is actually a logical step for the traditional luthier, as cajons and guitars are inseparable when it comes to Flamenco music. In this particular model, there are two snare wires in a V tension for a traditional sound. It also has a tuning mechanism, however, to either sharpen or mute the tone as desired. That's what makes this instrument suitable for any kind of music, as it serves as a great alternative for a drum kit at unplugged gigs.
Birch and teak
The Canela cajon's body is made completely from birch, which gives it a sturdy construction and warm tone. The playing surface, however, is made of teak, which boasts a compact sound with a deep bass and sharp slaps. To bring out the unique and attractive wood grain of the birch, it has been given a natural lacquer finish. Lastly, a sound hole measuring 120 mm in diameter in the rear provides excellent sound projection.
