Have you always wanted a vintage guitar from the sixties, but were you planning on not selling your car in order to be able to afford it? Eastwood offers you the ideal means of achieving this goal with their Airline MAP DLX in Sunburst. This electric guitar is a copy of the 1962 Valco National MAP guitar, an instrument that was characterised by its unique shape, based on the map of North America. The original model had a rather dodgy construction that consisted of two pieces of fibreglass. The Eastwood Airline MAP DLX mahogany, however, is improved drastically with a mahogany body, providing it with more durability and a better sound. What's more, it is far less expensive!
Hollow mahogany body of the Airline MAP DLX
Despite the fact that it looks like the original, the Airline sounds a lot better. Its mahogany body has a better resonance, giving this guitar a fuller, richer tone. It also makes this guitar a lot stronger than the classic Res-O-Glass models. Thanks to the internal sound chambers, the light, hollow-body weight of the original is maintained. Its maple neck is bolted onto the body and features a rosewood fretboard with 22 frets and beautiful block inlays. The relatively short, 24.75-inch, scale length of this guitar makes it delightfully smooth to play.
Hardware and electronics
The Airline MAP DLX by Eastwood is equipped with two Alnico Hot-10 humbucker pickups that produce a full, rich, clear sound in all three positions, despite their high output. A 3-position pickup switch, a volume control per pickup and a master tone offer a wide range of sounds. This guitar's bridge is a Tune-O-Matic with roller saddles. Combined with the Bigsby tremolo, this bridge allows you to create wild vibrato effects without jeopardising the guitar's tuning. To fully complete the picture, this guitar has a National-style pickguard with the characteristic striping.
