The Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V is a software edition of the legendary PPG Wave synthesizer, one of the most well-known high-end synths of the 1980s. The typical sound of the synthesizer, which was developed by Wolfgang Palm, can be heard on many recordings. The original hardware PPG Wave came with a considerable price tag, but thanks to this affordable PPG Wave 3.V plug-in, you can now use the legendary synth in combination with your DAW.
The history of the PPG Wave
The PPG Wave 2.2 is a world-famous digital wavetable synthesizer with analogue filters. Armed with an entire arsenal of waveforms, the synth was not only capable of reproducing all the familiar analogue sounds, but it could also generate choirs, horns and chimes. Thanks to an extensive filter section, this enabled you to create brand new, unique sounds. In cooperation with Wolfgang Palm, Waldorf’s engineers have succeeded in capturing the sonic qualities of the synth powerhouse in a plug-in edition.
Using the plug-in
A graphical interface allows you to set the parameters of the software synth. The controls resemble that of the original PPG Wave, but the plug-in has an additional display that gives you a clear overview of the waveforms and presets. A switch enables you to choose between various models of the PPG Wave - the PPG Wave 2.2, the PPG Wave 2.3 and the PPG Wave 2.V - which offer subtle differences in aliasing and other sonic characteristics. The Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V plug-in runs on both Windows and Apple computers.
