The Fender Stratocaster is known for its clear and sparkling sounds that are partially created by its three single-coil pickups. However, this HSS edition packs a powerful humbucker pickup in the bridge position that makes it suitable for rougher guitaring. The Standard series guitars are built in Mexico, where the production costs are much lower, making this Fender surprisingly affordable. The Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS is available in many colours, including this Black version. There's also a choice between a maple fretboard for more bite, and a rosewood one (like on this version) for a warmer sound.
Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS: body and neck
The Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS' body is made of lightweight alder, for a full and balanced tone, and has the same classic shape as its predecessor from the fifties. The two deep cutaways make it easier to reach the highest frets. The maple neck on this guitar has a comfortable narrow profile and a 21 medium jumbo frets rosewood fretboard with a modern, relatively flat 9.5-inch radius. This allows for a delightfully low action without clattering strings or loss of notes during bends.
HSS pickup configuration and vintage tremolo
The Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS also goes by the name 'Fat Strat', as its humbucker pickup provides a lot more output than a traditional single-coil and produces a much fatter sound. A five-position pickup switch allows you to choose between the warm, sparkling sound of the neck pickup, the fierce bite of the middle pickup, the aggressive tones of the bridge pickup or two pickup combinations. Additionally, this guitar is equipped with a volume control and two tone knobs to filter the high frequencies. Lastly, the Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS features a vintage-style tremolo bridge that enables you to create subtle or dramatic vibrato effects by pressing the tremolo arm.
